CREATIVE DIRECTION
Sport and Pride began in the true DIY spirit. Both are rooted in the belief of creating community spaces allowing individuals to flourish. Since the first game played, passionate athletes of all levels keep pushing the limits of what’s possible. Though for the LGBTQ+ community, the DIY spirit originated in challenging times. Following the Stonewall riots, the LGBTQ+ community has been continuously fighting for inclusion, for their rights to love. As we unite and push for change, not only do we build communities, we change the game. For the love of sport and the love of love.
I acted as creative director for this pack, solidifying color palette, key footwear and apparel silhouettes, graphic energy, accessories, and overall fit and feel for this pack.
The Kraken joined the NHL as an expansion team in 2021. I was fortunate to work along a steller team of designers to build the brand identity for the new franchise. My explorations considered other successful sports franchises throughout history, including the Charlotte Hornets, Phoenix Coyotes, and Toronto Raptors. Much of the color suggestions that I contributed factored in local flavor and heritage Seattle sports DNA. The biggest challenge was convincing the owners to stray from their original want to have a black/grey/red identity. I love where the team landed!
The intention of the 2017 Adidas Black History Month Packs was celebration through education. We collaborated with Ashe's family and foundation to create an overt commercial pack with bold storytelling details. As an african-american male, working on this project was very near and dear to my heart.
The SS19 Adidas Black History Month project was a true passion project of mine. I was responsible for all the storytelling and color + materials for this pack.
My concept for the Adidas 2017 All-Star Weekend called "No Brakes - Down To The Metal", was inspired by Nascar origins in Charlotte. The ASW pack utilized an elevated toolbox of metallic Boost, Primeknit, Xeno, and platinum hardware, paired with fun speed-inspired graphics.
The 2017 All-Star Weekend was supposed to be in Charlotte, North Carolina. It was moved to New Orleans because of a controversial law that was passed in 2016 in North Carolina. The last minute shift make it nearly impossible to shift the original story. In doing so, this deck doesn't reflect the additional New Orleans' graphic toolbox.
